Zjana Muraro is a choreographer, somatic researcher and digital performance artist working across live performance, dance for camera, immersive environments and installation. Her practice brings together dance, somatics, performance studies and computational arts to explore how bodies are sensed, mediated and understood through technology.
She creates performance worlds in which movement, sound and responsive media influence one another. Rather than treating the body simply as content for technology, Zjana uses embodied knowledge to question and reshape digital systems, creating encounters that invite audiences to experience identity, perception and collective life from unfamiliar perspectives.

With Our Shadows
Presented in New York City in 2025, this interactive dance and projection work uses real-time motion tracking to bring live choreography, projected bodies, animated image and shadow into dialogue.

Zjana’s research spans somatic practice, virtual and augmented reality, motion tracking, interactive projection and accessible immersive performance.
Her 2021 Stranger research brought dance, somatics and VR into a development process with 15 Access All Areas Associate Artists in East London. Learning from that process now informs Lowlifes.
Her wider digital practice includes Moving Digits, a Creative Europe-funded international research programme exploring dance, motion tracking and augmented reality, alongside published research on somatics and technologically mediated performance.

Zjana is a Lecturer in Dance and contributes to research and discourse across dance, embodiment and somatic practice through the Journal of Dance and Somatic Practices.
Her interests include embodiment, accessibility, responsive technology and the ways digital environments can be informed by bodily knowledge.

Zjana’s work and performance practice have been presented across theatres, festivals, museums and research contexts, including Dixon Place in New York, REDCAT in Los Angeles, Mercat de les Flors during Barcelona’s Grec Festival, Oulu Museum of Art, Hong Kong Culture Centre, Suzanne Dellal Centre, Malta Society of Arts, Turner Contemporary, Roundhouse and The Place.
