With Our Shadows

Interactive dance and projection bringing live bodies, animated image and shadow into a shared performance environment.

Interactive projection Live dance New York City · 2025

The work

A body meeting its projected double.

With Our Shadows is an interactive dance and projection work evolving from Touching from a Distance, Zjana’s first motion capture (MoCap) system created for live stage performance in 2018.

The work was presented at WHITE WAVE Dance’s SoloDuo Dance Festival at Dixon Place in New York City in 2025.

The live choreography unfolds with animated and projected material, creating shifting relationships between bodies, shadows and digital images.

How the system works

An Orbbec depth camera tracks the live body; TouchDesigner translates that motion into real-time projected imagery controlled and played back from a dedicated computer.
